After the establishment of Grundy County in 1844, Altamont was established as the county seat in 1848 and incorporated in 1854. If you have been accused of committing a crime, your future and possibly your freedom are at stake. If you are new to the criminal justice system, you may turn to family and friends for advice. Although everyone may have an opinion, along with well-meaning advice, it is crucial to remember that there is no substitute to experienced legal advice and guidance. A wrong step early on could do irreparable damage to the outcome of your case. With that in mind, it is important to follow a few basic guidelines. First and foremost, do not discuss the details of your case with anyone except a licensed attorney. Your conversation with your attorney is confidential; however, anything you say to anyone else could be used against you at trial. It isn’t a matter of trust but a matter of law. Second, you have a constitutional right to remain silent. You must exercise that right, however, for it to protect you. Do not speak to the police or the prosecuting attorney without an attorney present. No exceptions.
Sadly, the highly emotional nature of family law cases frequently brings out the worst in people. People who once loved each other turn into enemies overnight. Even the joy that the process of adopting a child brings can be filled with tension and worry until the adoption is finalized. I am confused about the only review on this page. It is so not the truth. I have had Mr. Bennett as my lawyer a couple of times and know him very well. Most attorneys know that they make alot of money of you and that is all that they care about. However, Mr. Bennett really does care about you as a person. He always asks about what is going on in my life, and cares about my well being. In the courtroom he tries his absolute best to get you in the least amount of trouble as possible, and almost always succeeds! I got out of a lot of trouble that i so deserved to be in, and without him I couldn't have. I already have recommended him to other people and will continue to do so forever. Great Lawyer and you will not be disappointed. Hiring him was worth literally every penny!
