Bennett & Michael in the Smithville, Tennessee Community

Although it is not perfect, we are fortunate to have one of the best judicial systems in the world in the United States. No matter how good a judicial system is, however, it can become a nightmare for someone thrust into that system unexpectedly, as is often the case in family law or criminal court. At Bennett & Michael, our family and criminal law attorneys have dedicated their practice to ensuring that Smithville, Tennessee litigants in family law matters and defendants in criminal prosecutions are aggressively protected and zealously represented.

For a first-time defendant, the criminal justice system itself can be intimidating. Well-meaning friends and family are full of advice, some of which may be valuable but most of which isn’t. Just trying to figure out who to trust and how to make crucial decisions can be exhausting. Understandably, you also want to limit the negative impact on your career, your social life, and your family, to the extent possible, of your arrest. At the same time, you must try not to make a wrong step that could damage your case down the road. Above all else, you must not discuss your case to anyone except your attorney.  Remember, your conversation with your defense attorney is confidential; however, anything you say to anyone else is not. That means do not discuss your case with your spouse, your mother, or your cellmate. No matter how loyal you believe that person may be, nor how much you may want their advice and input, you must keep in mind the power the State has to force anyone to testify against you at trial. The number one rule for protecting yourself in the early days of a criminal prosecution, therefore, is to exercise your right to remain silent.

Family law cases often bring out the worst in people because of the emotional nature of the cases. Don’t risk the outcome of a custody battle, adoption, divorce, or guardianship by letting your emotions get the better of you. Instead, allow us to help you successfully litigate the issue or dispute. The family law attorneys at Bennett & Michael understand the volatile nature of many family law legal issues as well as how important the outcome is for the parties involved. We understand that the outcome can impact everyone involved for many years to come which is why you need the advice, guidance, and advocacy of an experienced family law attorney on your side.

Whether you need a family law or criminal defense attorney, the team at Bennett & Michael is committed to aggressively and zealously represent you and your rights throughout your interaction with the Smithville, Tennessee court system.
