History of La Vergne, Tennessee

The city of La Vergne, Tennessee was established back in August of 1852 and received its name from the Postmaster who was honoring his friend, Francois Lenard Gegoire de Roulhac de LaVergne who passed away on the same down the town was named. The City of La Vergne, however, wasn’t officially incorporated until relatively recently on February 29, 1972. La Vergne has an interesting and rich history that includes early pioneers, train wrecks, huge population shifts, and major industrial growth. At least seven Civil War battles were fought on what is now La Vergne, including the Battle of 1862 when most of the city burnt to the ground. Not long after, in 1900, two devastating tornadoes ripped through the town, destroying two schools.

La Vergne remained a small town throughout the 20th century, with the town’s population never exceeding 10,000 people until a population “explosion” occurred toward the end of the century, taking the town’s population from 7,500 in 1990 to 14,275 just six years later in 1996. In 2010 historic flooding occurred in La Vergne, along with the rest of middle Tennessee, when 13.57 inches of rain fell in just two days. While no deaths were reported in La Vergne, there were 24 deaths statewide. Through all of the ups and down, the La Vergne community stayed optimistic and that optimism took them into the 21st century stronger than ever.

The La Vergne Community Today

Located almost directly in the middle of Tennessee, La Vergne is within 30 minutes of the much larger city of Nashville, Tennessee. The population in La Vergne has continued to grow, with almost 35,00 residents as of the 2013. La Vergne, however, is also considered part of the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area which has a population of over 1.7 million full-time residents.

La Vergne has historically attracted an interesting mix of industrial operations, a trend that appears to be continuing into the 21st century. In November 2015, Hong Kong based Sinomax announced they would be investing $28 million into basing their North American manufacturing headquarters in La Vergne, creating 350 jobs. This investment will mark the largest by a Chinese company in Tennessee’s history.

The City of La Vergne is nestled next to the 14,000-acre Percy Priest Lake, and ranked sixth in the state for being business-friendly by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. Boaters and fisherman are drawn to Percy Lake while parents like the high-rated schools. Another attraction the city has to offer is Veterans Memorial Park, a hidden gem in Rutherford County. This park includes basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields, a football field, an in-line hockey rink, playgrounds, a lengthy walking trail along with benches, and shelters for people to enjoy all year long. In 2013 La Vergne had the honor of being named the most affordable suburb of a major metropolitan area in the state by movoto.com, as well as fourth in the entire nation for lowest utilities. Also, in August 2011, CNN Money named the city as the 13th most affordable place to live in the U.S. La Vergne offers residents all of the charm and security of small town southern living with all the conveniences of the “big city” still within easy reach.

Being involved in the legal system is rarely pleasant; however, when your involvement stems from a family law issue, such as divorce, child custody, or paternity, it can be even more stressful. In addition, the decisions made in a family law case will often have a profound, and lasting, impact on you and your family for many years to come. Moreover, the legal system itself can be confusing and difficult to navigate by yourself which is why you need an experienced, and compassionate, attorney on your side to protect you and your rights throughout your involvement in the legal system.

If you, or a loved one, are involved in a criminal law matter, it means your freedom and your future (or that of your loved one) are at stake. As such, your choice of legal representation becomes even more important. As a defendant in a criminal prosecution you have a number of important Constitutional rights; however, in order for those rights to protect you it is essential that you know what they are as well as when and how to assert them. Our job, as your attorneys, is to make sure you understand the rights you have and to protect those rights throughout the life of your case. In addition, we promise to provide you with an aggressive defense, avoiding a conviction whenever possible. When avoiding a conviction is not possible, we will use our negotiation skills to try and obtain the most favorable plea agreement possible for you.

We understand how difficult it can be to try and navigate the judicial system, particularly during times of stress, as is often the case when a family law lawsuit or criminal prosecution is threatened or underway.
